SELECTED THEME 2014: ANIMAL WELFARE In the last decades, there is a global increase of societal interest and concern on how animals are used and treated. The societal expectation from the veterinary profession regarding Animal Welfare now expands well beyond simply individual veterinary daily practices. The veterinary profession has a unique position between man and animal to deliver animal welfare services to the benefit of all animals and society. The theme of Animal Welfare was chosen to highlight the role of veterinarians in Animal Welfare in line with OIE standards and the great contribution of the veterinary profession to animals and society around the globe.
