WSAVA's Animal Wellness & Welfare Committee (AWWC) is offering the opportunity for veterinarians to spend time with CLAW and its team prior to the 2014 WSAVA World Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. The experience would require the volunteers to travel to Johannesburg. CLAW welcomes volunteer veterinarians who wish to learn about assisting animals in underserved communities, and offer their time and compassion towards improving the health and well-being of people and their pets. Volunteer numbers are restricted to a maximum of 10 veterinarians When: For 6 days prior to the WSAVA Congress i.e. 8-13 Sept 2014. Where: At the CLAW clinic and surrounding townships in Johannesburg, South Africa. During this time, volunteer veterinarians would assist CLAW during their mobile veterinary clinics. These clinics bring vaccines, deworming, as well as flea & tick treatments to animals in impoverished townships. In addition, volunteers would be able to assist with diagnostics, education and outreach. They will have the opportunity to see the communities CLAW serves and understand local social, health and veterinary concerns. Assist during mobile veterinary clinics. Provide basic care such as vaccination and parasite treatments Learn about the challenges in underserved communities and how veterinarians can play an important role in addressing them. |
